Medical Marijuana Uses – The Ills We Treats

Here at Satori, we care about delivering the highest quality medicinal marijuana to help our Arizona ‘Private Member Patients’ treat their various symptoms. We say various because the number of different symptoms, illnesses, and disorders that medical marijuana, THC, or CBD can help treat is staggering. This time on the blog, we are focusing all about that, looking at some of the different conditions that medical marijuana can help to treat.

Medical Marijuana Uses

Nausea

Nausea, the feeling of sickness, dizziness, or a suggestion or feeling of vomiting is one such condition medical marijuana has proven effective treatment for. Whether this is in relation to diseases or caused by chemotherapy, many patients report positive results from treating their nausea with cannabis. Depending on the nature of the method of use, the relief can come faster than other pharmaceutical options that have been traditionally used.

Pain

Pain, chronic pain specifically, is one of the most cited issues with which Arizonans seek treatment for. Chronic pain is of course a large umbrella term but regardless of specifics, cannabis has been seen and experienced by many as a useful treatment. Studies have shown that inhaling cannabis has a faster speed of relief than ingested orally, and that it is proven effective in the short term for certain kinds of pain relief.

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an unfortunately all too common condition suffered by thousands, if not millions, of Americans across the country. As we better understand this disorder and the factors causing it, we have to approach the problem from a place of treatment as well. While the studies are still in their infancy, over two thousand Arizonans use medical marijuana to get relief from their PTSD symptoms.

These are just some of the real medical conditions that marijuana and its components can help treat, offering relief and solace in a natural way without the addition of pharmaceutical chemicals. You can find another helpful list of even more conditions over at WebMD .

The unfortunate truth in many cases is that, due to the United States laws and regulations in regards to marijuana, there are many studies that just don’t have the longevity, large enough sample sizes, or other key attributes to clear studies. We have doctor recognition, hypothesis and more, but until we see further research in the fields we have only begun to scratch the surface of what medical marijuana can help with!

So long as you are receiving relief, whether from nausea, chronic pain, or inflammation, medical marijuana is a proven treatment for you, and sometimes isn’t that enough? Arizonan Medical Marijuana Statistics

These numbers are coming right from the Arizona Department of Health Services and are current as of May 2018. They put out a monthly report to spotlight the current statistics of the program, and these are pulled from the May 2018 monthly report.

175,622

That’s the number of active cardholders in Arizona! Of those, 169,478 are qualifying patients, 5,209 are Dispensary Agents and 935 Caregivers. This is up a ton! The earliest reports from the AZDHS  in 2011 put qualifying patients at 13,613. That means an increase of ~1145% to date! More people than ever are looking to the medical uses of marijuana. The more experience people get, the less stigma there will be to using marijuana for its real beneficial purposes.

Qualified Patient Characteristics

Of those 169,478 qualified patients, 60% are male. Most patients are in the 18-30 bracket (with 24.95%) followed closely by 31-40 at 20.73%. The 41-50, 51-60, and 61-70 age groups have roughly 16% each. Adjusting for that initial 18-30 bracket having an additional 3 years shows that the patient age is fairly evenly represented across all age groups.

That means people of all ages, all across Arizona are benefiting from utilizing medical marijuana! And they are using it for a wide range of conditions.

Conditions Being Treated by Medical Marijuana

There is no doubt what the number one is being reported by qualifying patients is Chronic Pain. Over 86% of patients in Arizona utilize their medical marijuana prescription to help provide relief from chronic pains. It makes sense for chronic pain to be so heavily represented, being a blanket term for a number of more specific conditions like migraines and back pain. What’s of note is the wide range of other conditions that patients are finding relief from through medicinal marijuana. Statistics show over 2,000 patients utilize medical marijuana to get relief from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, 3,857. There are about a dozen other conditions that qualified patients report and utilize medical marijuana for, right down to 21 patients who use it for assistance in handling their Scelorsis.

Each year, the AZDHS allows for more conditions to be petitioned to be added as qualifying conditions. As more and more people begin to experience relief from their conditions through medical marijuana, you can be certain more and more people will be seeing what the herb can do for them!

Tons of Relief

Curious about the amount of marijuana sold? This year through may 2018 saw over 41,000 pounds of marijuana sold from dispensaries. That’s not including edibles or anything else! Edibles themselves made up another 2,000 pounds.
